If all goes well, it may only be a matter of months before the Key Peninsula gets its first doughnut shop.

Fusion Donut Café and O’Reilly Auto Parts are set to be the newest businesses at the Lake Kathryn Village shopping center on the Key Peninsula, a property owner confirmed to The News Tribune on Nov. 3.

Bryce Zimmerman, co-owner of Northwestern General, LLC, confirmed that he’s in active discussions with Fusion Donut Café about their plans to move into Lake Kathryn Village, though Fusion hasn’t applied to Pierce County for permits yet. The doughnut shop has two existing locations, one in downtown Tacoma and one at the Peninsula Shopping Center in Gig Harbor.

The space that Fusion is looking at is 1200 square feet, and hasn’t been occupied previously, he told The News Tribune. He explained in a text message that it’s one of a couple small individual suites that weren’t built out with the rest of the building about five years ago.

Though “it’s hard to say” how long the permitting process with the county will take, he said the business will hopefully open in the next six months.

The News Tribune reached out to the Fusion Donut owners but did not immediately hear back on Nov. 3.

Zimmerman also confirmed that construction is underway on a stand-alone O’Reilly Auto Parts store. County permit records indicate that the proposed store at 14306 92nd Ave. NW will be 7,453 square feet.

O’Reilly owns that parcel of land, purchasing it from Northwestern General, LLC in September 2023, Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer records show.

Zimmerman estimated that workers broke ground three to four weeks ago but said he isn’t sure of an opening date.

A reporter reached out to the O’Reilly representative listed in the permit records and a designated media contact email for O’Reilly Auto Parts on Nov. 3 but did not immediately hear back.
