Thousands without power on the Key Peninsula Wednesday evening
Update, 6:35 p.m.: The outages in Gig Harbor are cleared, as seen on the PenLight outage map.
Update, 6:05 p.m.: 6,500+ members are affected by the outages, PenLight posted on X: “crews actively patrolling the area and transmission lines. Multiple reports of trees down in various areas that are also being investigated.”
The post also said that dispatchers will look at options to reroute power once crews identify the cause of the outage.
Key Peninsula Fire Department spokesperson Anne Nesbit wrote The News Tribune in a text at about 6:10 p.m. that the department has “had no calls regarding trees or lines that would have cut power.”

The Key Peninsula has gone largely dark as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Peninsula Light Co.’s outage map showed thousands without power from the southern end of the peninsula north to the Vaughn and Wauna areas. A few scattered outages lingered around Gig Harbor.
“Reports of widespread outage impacting Key Peninsula, possibly transmission - gathering information and dispatching crews,” PenLight posted on X at 5:30 p.m. “Staff evaluating outage reports, updating the map and will work to reroute power were possible once cause is determined.”
