  • Tides Tavern owner has maintained that the restaurant will remain unchanged.

The Tides Tavern will be closed for a month for maintenance, the downtown Gig Harbor restaurant posted on social media Monday.

“We’re closed to do some kitchen maintenance,” the post said. “Don’t worry, this (is) regular kitchen maintenance, Tides is remaining Tides. We’ll be back in a month, ready to serve up your favorite dishes and pints.”

The beloved waterfront restaurant announced earlier this month that the seafood dining chain Anthony’s Restaurants is taking ownership of the Tides Tavern, marking the end of over 50 years of ownership by the Stanley family, The News Tribune reported. Peter Stanley began running the establishment at 2925 Harborview Dr. in 1973, and passed the baton to his son, Dylan Stanley, in 2012.

Dylan Stanley told The News Tribune shortly after announcing the change in ownership that he had spoken with Anthony’s team and was confident in the new leadership’s commitment to respecting the Tides’ history and keeping it the same as before. The restaurant’s name, menu, chef and management staff aren’t going to change, Stanley said.

A press release Jan. 13 said that the business planned to close on their sale to Anthony’s “within the next 4 weeks.” Washington state Department of Revenue records show that Anthony’s, under the name of their corporation Mad Anthony’s Incorporated, purchased the property at 2925 Harborview Dr. and 2931 Harborview Dr. for $4.6 million on Jan. 24.

Stanley wrote in an email Monday that because he is no longer the Tides’ owner, he couldn’t comment on the post about the maintenance-related closure, and encouraged The News Tribune to reach out to Anthony’s for more information. The News Tribune reached out to the marketing director for Anthony’s Restaurants via email and phone Monday but did not immediately hear back.
