Gig Harbor’s newest ice cream and candy shop looks like it’s almost ready to open.

Couple of Scoops, located in the Olympic Village shopping center at 5500 Olympic Dr. NW, Suite H-103, originally hoped to open around the beginning of May, but due to “construction hiccups” and shipping delays will now open in early June, according to its recent Facebook posts.

The store held a pop-up recently at Precious Collective Boutique in the Uptown shopping center.

According to a Facebook post, the store will host a grand opening June 6. The News Tribune has reached out to the store, but hasn’t heard back.

The store will feature two dozen flavors with dairy-free and gluten-free options.

Owner Jim Ciaciuch, 60, previously told The News Tribune at least half of their candy varieties will be sugar-free.

“So I’m trying to bring some things to town that you just can’t find in a Häagen-Dazs, or a Ben & Jerry’s, or the grocery store in the ice cream aisle,” he previously said. “I’m trying to bring some things that are fresh and different.”

While the store will also have what Ciaciuch described jokingly as “unhealthy” treats, his goal is that “this is a store for everybody.”

Ciaciuch also owns Couple of Socks, a store in the Tacoma Mall. Both stores offer employment opportunities to people with disabilities.

Their mission statement on their website says “we exist solely to create employment opportunities for all people, regardless of abilities. We want to specifically change the way people with disabilities are seen, respected, valued, and employed because we believe everyone has the right to work and enjoy the rewards from it. Our goal is to create a work environment that is supportive of all people, all abilities, and all backgrounds.”

The planned store hours for Couple of Scoops will be noon-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, noon-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.
