Peninsula School District levy renewal topic of upcoming forums
The Peninsula School District is asking local taxpayers to renew a levy that funds more than 20 percent of the operating costs for schools. The levy dollars help fund everything from safety needs to transportation down to school supplies used in classrooms.
The replacement of the levy will be the topic of two public forums:
▪ Monday, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Henderson Bay High School.
▪ Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Key Peninsula Middle School.
For further community feedback, the district has set up an online survey about the levy at www.surveymonkey.com/r/mb7slhv.
Under current law the district may fund levies for up to four years. The current four-year levy expires in 2016.
More commonly known as a Maintenance and Operations Levy (M&O), the name has changed on the ballot to the Educational Programs and Operations Levy (EP&O). The name has changed from four years ago, but the levy has not.
The levy is paid for with local property taxes.
