Warm weather boosted attendance at Summer Sounds of Skansie, CinemaGig movies
Beautiful summer weather boosted attendance at the Summer Sounds of Skansie concert series this summer.
“We had another blockbuster year,” said Karen Scott, director of Tourism & Communications for the City of Gig Harbor. “(The weather) every Tuesday was perfect.”
With an average attendance of about 2,200 concert-goers a week, there’s no denying that the concerts are a popular summer attraction in the Harbor.
The most well-attended concert of the year was on July 21 for the Beatniks, Scott said.
“They’re a hometown favorite band,” she said.
City officials were also pleased with the series’ opening concert, The Coats, on June 16 during the U.S. Open week.
“We also had great turnout for our kickout concert,” Scott said.
The CinemaGig Outdoor Movies in the Park also enjoyed a high level of attendance, with several hundred people attending each event.
The goal for the outdoor movie program next year is establishing a consistent location and movie theme, Scott said. This year’s movies alternated between Skansie Brothers Park and Donkey Creek Park.
Also new for 2016 will be Free Family Film Friday, at Crescent Creek Park, which will feature more animated movies.
