New carpets will be installed at the Gig Harbor Pierce County Library, prompted a two-week closure in November.
The library closure will begin Nov. 9 and the library will reopen Nov. 22.
“We’re very excited about (the new carpets),” said Tracey Thompson, the new branch manager at the Gig Harbor library.
This refurbishment will include replacing all the carpeting in the main part of the library, leaving the overall layout of the library unchanged. Special attention will be given to the children’s area of the library, where bright colors will be added to help distinguish the space and make it fun.
“We’re brightening up the children’s area,” Thompson said.
During the closure the library will offer some services in the meeting room including holds pick-up, limited computer access and some Lucky Day items.
Returns will continue to be accepted either in the meeting room or at the outside book chute.
New library seating is also expected, hopefully before the library reopens.
The next big project on the books is new signage. This project is expected for the end of 2016 and does not require another closure.
The carpet isn’t the only thing new at the library. Thompson started recently as branch manager just in time for the carpet refurbishment.
“I’m excited to be here. Gig Harbor has been so welcoming,” Thompson said.
