The City of Gig Harbor installed a new water bottle filling station and fountain Nov. 5 at Eddon Boat Park in honor of longtime citizen Pat Kuykendall.
The fountain was donated to help keep walkers and their pets hydrated while enjoying the park, located at 3805 Harborview Drive. Kuykendall’s family and friends coordinated the project with the city.
“This memorial, and particularly it’s beautiful venue, represent so many of the things Pat highly valued in our community; clean water, fun boating and fishing, and especially dogs,” said Dick Kuykendall, Pat’s husband.
Dick Kuykendall’s beloved dog, Coco, had the first drink from the ground-level fountain for dogs.
A GoFundMe online initiative to honor Pat was established earlier this year, and many community members, family and friends have made contributions.
Most Dependable Fountains, Inc. is the manufacturer of the outdoor bottle filling station. The bottle fillers are known for durability, longevity and dependability, plus they help promote the “going green” movement to reduce plastic bottles in landfills.
In reference to the donation, Mayor Jill Guernsey said: “This is a reminder of the generosity and pride that citizens have in our community.”
