7 Seas Brewing to host fundraiser event to benefit local organizations

Gig Harbor’s 7 Seas Brewing is hosting a donation bash for Alchemy Skateboarding and Peninsula Hands on Art from 5 to 7 p.m. March 29 at the 7 Seas Tap Room.

The proceeds from the 253 Pilsner Donation Bash, sales of the 7 Seas brew 253 Pilsner will be donated to the two local nonprofits, with the event serving to showcase the recipients and present each organization with a donation check of $5,000.

“We created 253 Pilsner with 253Heart because we wanted to give a shoutout to our home, the 253,” Mike Runion, president and co-owner of 7 Seas Brewing, said in a release. “We also wanted to give back to the community that has supported us and to organizations dedicated to enriching our community by enriching the lives of the children growing up here.”

Representatives from Alchemy Skateboarding will provide information about their indoor community skate park and Peninsula Hands on Art will display recent art projects.

A Tacoma-based nonprofit organization, Alchemy Indoor Skatepark and Education Center is dedicated to improving the relationship between skateboarders and the greater community. Their goal is to provide a free, dry and safe place for local skaters to skate and develop their athletic, social and educational skills.

Peninsula Hands on Art was founded in 2003 by concerned parents and local artists and now serves approximately 2,700 students in grades kindergarten to fifth across six schools. Students complete four art projects every year that are designed centrally and presented in the classroom by trained art docents. The goal of the organization is to provide the students with the pleasures and rewards of the creative process and a greater understanding of visual arts in culture and history.

Founded in 2009 by Gig Harbor natives Travis Guterson and Runion, 7 Seas Brewing offers seven year-round brews, three rotating seasonal brews and an extensive Tap Room Reserve Series. They are the first brewery in Washington to can craft beer and blazed a path of environmentally friendly packaging that has since been adopted by many others.

253Heart is an artistic representation of the spirit of the people and communities living in the 253 area code. Steve Nacarrato is the guardian of the 253Heart design and commissions artists to design products that showcase the creative energy and spirit of the South Sound. A portion of all 253Heart designed products benefit local charities.

This event is open to the public and an opportunity for residents to learn more about these local organizations.
