Just in time for spring, JW @ The Boatyard is now open and ready for customers.

The Trolley opened Friday and was quickly doing business to eager customers during the Gig Harbor Paddler’s Cup on Saturday and Sunday.

“It went really well,” general manager Jamie Lindsey said of the Trolley’s opening weekend. “ We didn’t really expect to be quite that busy.”

In fact, business was brisk enough that the location ran out of the more popular items — Harbor Cod Tacos and 7 Seas Beer Battered Cod ‘N Chips — which confirmed Chef Eddie William’s prediction from earlier in the week.

“I’m afraid we’re going to run out of food,” Williams said with a laugh. “Everybody’s excited and can’t wait to get down here and try our food.”

Lindsey said that the staff has readjusted the numbers and increased preparations to be ready for future customers.

“It was a good learning experience,” she said. “It was just super exciting for us. We had great feedback.”

The Trolley has been in a position to open for 11 months — through most of 2015 — while permitting issues where resolved and the final preparations for the location completed.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Lindsey said.

The Trolley boasts a full kitchen setup that Lindsey says is bigger than the one at the restaurant, which shares a parking lot with the Harbor History Museum at 4107 Harborview Drive.

The Trolley menu was designed by Lindsey, Williams said, and features some favorites previously seen as appetizers on JW’s menu.

It’s more like an outdoor restaurant than a food truck.

“I really just picked food that I liked,” Lindsey said of her menu choices, which range from lighter salads and appetizers to heartier fare for hungrier customers.

Also featured is a children’s menu and Whidbey Island Ice Cream Bars for anyone looking to satisfy their sweet tooth.

The Trolley is open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to dusk and even offers some picnic table seating for customers looking to linger nearby.

“It’s more like an outdoor restaurant than a food truck,” Lindsey said.
