City of Gig Harbor updates fireworks regulations

Festivities abound for residents throughout Gig Harbor ready to celebrate the Fourth of July with food, fun and the ever requisite fireworks.

With fireworks and safety a reoccurring annual topic, the city of Gig Harbor has updated its fireworks regulations that effects the dates and hours that fireworks can be discharged within city limits.

While fireworks went on sale inside Gig Harbor city limits on Tuesday, the discharge of fireworks is only allowed between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. from Friday (July 1) to Sunday (July 3) and between 9 a.m. and midnight on Monday (July 4).

Firework discharge outside of these times is subject to a $1,000 fine.

Items that remain prohibited include firecrackers, skyrockets, salutes, chasers and bottle rockets.

Be careful and be respectful of the noise and time. We get most of our complaints about time, late at night.

Kelly Busey

Gig Harbor police chief

Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey asks that Gig Harbor residents planning to discharge their own fireworks keep safety and caution in mind.

“Be careful and be respectful of the noise and time,” Busey said. “We get most of our complaints about time late at night.”

For those living outside city limits in unincorporated Pierce County, fireworks may be discharged from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. from now until Sunday (July 3), from 9 a.m. to midnight Monday (July 4) and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday (July 5).

Discharging fireworks is banned inside city, county or state parks.
