Cheers and Jeers, Sept. 29

Cheers to Peninsula High School graduate and Gig Harbor resident Megan Blunk for bringing home the gold medal in wheelchair basketball from Rio in the Paralympic Games. The women’s wheelchair basketball team never lost one game as they fought all the way through to the gold medal game. Congratulations.

Cheers to the Harbor History Museum. We had out of town family here last week. We took them down to the Harbor History Museum. They liked the museum, but they loved the work that has been done on the Shenandoah. We are so fortunate to have this long-term restoration going on so we can learn about ship building. Each visit is marked with great progress. Congratulations on the continued work and the ability to keep the historical preservation grant money in place.

Cheers to Principal Tom Leacy and the staff at Gig Harbor High School for so effectively managing the response and communication regarding the threat that was made against the high school last week. Their actions to quickly address and act against the threat, regardless of the level of its viability, were highly appreciated and quickly helped allay the concerns of parents who would’ve otherwise found themselves terribly concerned when faced with limited information.

Cheers also to Chief Kelly Busey and the Gig Harbor Police Department for quickly acting and addressing the situation and for clearly communicating with the community that any potential threat had been nullified.
