Commentary: Welcome to America’s first ‘tabloid election’

I have a 35-year history with the Gateway dealing with my writing accomplishments and the Pierce County Playwrights Festival, which I founded.

But the sad truth is that this letter transcends the purpose of all my other submissions. What could be more consequential than one of the two major American political parties attempting to elect a “Russophile” racist misogynist narcissist as President of the United States, who would be in charge of foreign policy and the nuclear codes.

I have followed every presidential election since 1952 and this is no ordinary election.

This is America’s first “tabloid election,” where a candidate is driven by conspiracy theories, has predicted the end of American democracy and the total defeat of America by ISIS, should he, the savior from the land of lawsuits not be elected. To insure his election, his goons will occupy voting stations, challenge all those questionable voters of color, and perhaps solve the whole problem with one shot do to their beloved open carry.

He is the Man of La Mancha, who will run his spear of tweets through the press, the bankers (and we know who they are), the Congress, in fact the whole “political establishment,” the “elites,” and outmoded NATO will suffer the final coup de grâce.

He will return to La Mancha with the Stalin Peace prize and all the oil of the Middle East his knights of La Mancha lay their hands on. Theft is in the eye of the beholder. No, this is by no means an ordinary election and we shouldn’t treat it like it is. This election is bizarre, but the aftermath could prove deadly. We need to proceed with our eyes open.
