Letter: Time to bring out the radar guns again
Unlimber the radar guns
To the editor,
People obey laws that are enforced! In the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties people didn’t speed in Gig Harbor. Soundview Drive was famous, and no one went over 25 mph in town. And then came the era of “any speed is fine.”
Well, perhaps people have had enough. Today, I noticed this sign on Grandview, directly across the street from City Hall and the Police Department. Why pass laws if we have no intention of enforcing them? I have been told one reason is, there are no good places on our narrow roads for police officers to set up radar.
How did we do this in the old days along Soundview? What is wrong with a motorcycle officer dedicated to traffic enforcement? Maybe we can hire him from Fircrest; they have never had a problem keeping speeds within appropriate limits.
Gig Harbor can do better.
