In praise of police

To the editor,

I purchased a house, but a month after I began to clean and remodel it, the owner sneaked back in, changed the locks and said it was still her house.

I showed up and she swore a blue streak at me and called the police.

Officers Munn and Clark arrived. Very polite and professional. But even so she howled at them. (Wound up on crack, they later explained to me.)

I marveled how these two officers kept their calm and professional approach. They never raised their voices nor spoke disrespectfully to either of us, in spite of her threatening and swearing at them.

They asked me for proof that I owned the house. I showed them my deed.

“Ma’am, you have 15 minutes to gather your things and leave. Sir, please stand outside on the sidewalk until that happens.”

I have seen seasoned men in stress and battle, and these two young men showed extraordinary poise and composure. If this is the level of training our police have, I am confident they both have the right stuff.

Tad Browne,

Gig Harbor
