In support of the mayor

Reference the August 6 Peninsula Gateway article “Staff revolt brewing against Mayor Kit Kuhn”.

The article highlights our mayor’s work ethic, putting in full days though the position is “supposedly a part-time job”. There is no debate that Mayor Kuhn loves the city and is dedicated to seeing that the citizens of the city are the main focus of the administration. He is a hands-on manager and this in itself is a major cultural change for the city employees.

Our mayor is not political and has no political agenda. We were disappointed that the article included comments from past employees and a past council member. We believe there is a political agenda being promoted in preparation for the next election. Do we want to encourage “Washington D.C.” politics in our fine town?

We have an excellent City Council at present and have members who would recuse themselves were they to be voting on an issue that would be a personal conflict of interest.

Our Mayor Kuhn has during the past two plus years made many changes to address the traffic congestion, the financial issues and, as your article highlights, “the runaway development”, to name just a few.

We suggest, if you have not had an opportunity, please visit the beautiful new Soundview Forest Park at the base of Soundview and Harborview. You have Mayor Kuhn to thank for acquiring this property. It is very satisfying to see all the folks walking through the park or even sitting at the park table in the center of the park.

It is not easy to change the system, and Mayor Kit Kuhn deserves our support for all the grief he is facing in taking on this challenge for the benefit of Gig Harbor citizens.
