Campaign signs detract from area enhancements

First, we offer cheers to the city of Gig Harbor. We appreciate the attractive Gig Harbor banners recently attached to many of our street lights. Thanks. We offer cheers to the street maintenance for mowing along our roads, trails. We walk much and enjoy the mowing done to improve both the appearance and the safety of the borders along the Cushman Trail and Point Fosdick Drive.

Secondly, we offer jeers to some of our local political candidates. Do we really need to clutter up our beautiful community with candidates political signs along the roads and at the intersections six months ahead of the actual election?? We recently informed that one of the candidates (Jesse Young) has posted a thousand signs. Really?? Is this not overkill, and also premature in nature, and perhaps counter-productive in consequence?

Kilmer serving the other Washington

I just read my congressman’s latest email, “News from Representative Kilmer” and have concluded that we have lost Derek Kilmer to the “other Washington.” Here’s how:

The email shows that he DID join his fellow gun control advocates in a 1960s-style protest on the House floor while, in three separate phone calls during this “sit in,” his office staff told me they “weren’t sure” of his participation: (perhaps his staff should read the stuff he sends us). In his email, our congressman then lectured us on the evil influence foreign money has on our political process without once mentioning the open secret concerning Hillary Clinton (D) pedaling her influence overseas as our Secretary of State for “donations” to the Clinton Family Foundation. Beltway politics in action, again.

But the biggest problem this email exposed was the duality Congressman Kilmer has supporting our military. Despite numerous attempts (written and phone) for the last three years, I’ve never gotten an answer to my question on why Derek never felt he needed an active-duty veteran on his staff to represent “the uniform”… while boasting about having more active-duty members in his district than any other Democratic U.S. congressman. As a disabled veteran of 25 years active duty, I believe Derek Kilmer should publicly answer this question before he poses for anymore military photo ops for his DC re-election bid.
