Busy downtown Puyallup roads to close for infrastructure project
A busy roadway in downtown Puyallup will close Monday ahead of the city’s utility infrastructure improvement project.
The project is part of work to improve the sewer and stormwater infrastructure. The project involves replacing about 275 linear-feet of sanitary sewer main along Fourth Avenue Southeast between Third Street Southeast and Fourth Street Southeast, city spokesperson Eric Johnson told The News Tribune via email.
Johnson said the contractor has 50 working days to finish the work.
Johnson wrote construction activities include:
- Installation of temporary erosion and sedimentation control measures.
- Installation of bypass pumping systems for both sewer and stormwater flow during construction.
- Replacement of the sanitary sewer system with a new 24-inch PVC gravity sewer main and one manhole, including connections to existing side sewers.
- Installation of a new 12-inch ductile iron storm sewer main, one manhole, and a catch basin connected to existing pipes and manholes.
- Full site restoration, including paving.
The project costs about $733,000, according to Johnson.
“The closures are necessary to complete the project. All work on 3rd ST SE will be at night. So, impacts to drivers should be minimal. 3rd ST SE will have temporary lane closures. 4th Ave SE will be closed for the duration of the project,” he wrote.
