A 42-year-old man was seriously injured after an explosion at a Puyallup condominium complex on Thursday morning.

According to a news release from the Puyallup Police Department, officers were dispatched to 328 9th Avenue Southeast in the Evan Court condominium complex at about 11:30 a.m.

The residents of the unit were “uncooperative,” the release said, which prevented officers from going in right away. They eventually gained entry, and investigators started to believe the occupants were using “some kind of explosive or incendiary product,” which exploded and caused serious but non-life threatening injuries to the man.

The man went to the hospital in a private vehicle before officers arrived, the release said. He has been transferred to another hospital.

“Detectives from the Puyallup Police Department Criminal Investigations Division are on scene with Deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad continuing the investigation,” the release said.
