Puyallup Valley Sports Complex to get $100k playground
A new playground will be added to the renovations at Puyallup Valley Sports Complex after the City Council approved funding earlier this month.
The new play area will cost about $100,000 to purchase and install, according to city documents.
Designs include two slides, climbers, a balance beam, a group swing, a rock climbing wall and a jungle gym.
Parks and Recreation director Sarah Harris said the playground is expected to be added in mid- to late March. It will replace a nearly 30-year playground that was in disrepair. The plastic was starting to crack, including one of the slides, Harris said.
The park will be adjacent to the new turf fields.
The sports complex has gotten a facelift within the past two years, with the first of three sports fields turfed. The new artificial turf allows for community teams to play year-round.
Previously, grassy fields were difficult to use during rainy, winter months. From October to February, the city shuts down the fields due to inclement weather, leaving many teams with few options for practice.
All the prep work for the final two fields is finished, but the city is waiting for dry weather to install the turf. The project is expected to be completed by the end of March, Harris said.
The Puyallup Valley Complex has been busy with local clubs and community leagues playing football, baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer.
