May closures on Meridian Avenue for sewer extension project
A sewer project will close two southbound lanes on Meridian Avenue East at the 149th Street East intersection in South Hill starting in mid-May.
The closure will be from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday to Wednesday, and midnight to 6 a.m. Thursday. During the nighttime closure, traffic will use the middle turn-only lane.
All lanes will remain open during daytime hours.
The closure is expected to last two weeks.
The closures are part of a larger county project to extend sewer facilities under Meridian Avenue East to the other side of the highway. The sewer extension project cost $1.5 million.
There will be construction alongside intersections with 146th Street East, 147th Street East, 149th Street East and 158th Street East. The work will not require lane closures, but crews will work on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 pm.
Crews will add new manholes at many intersections, Pierce County said in a press release.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-July.
