‘Nights on Meeker:’ Fridays in downtown Puyallup just got upgraded
If you’re looking for somewhere to venture out, Friday nights in downtown Puyallup might be it.
Starting July 10, The Puyallup Main Street Association will host Friday “Nights on Meeker,” where locals can gather to eat food, shop and enjoy live music.
From 3-9 p.m., a block of West Meeker — from Meridian to 2nd Street SW — will be closed off for a small stage, vendors and picnic tables.
Main Street Association executive director Kerry Yanasak said the nonprofit also wants to fill a dozen or so planters and string up lights to add to the atmosphere.
“It’s not going to be a huge festival, but it will be a nice environment,” Yanasak said.
Downtown restaurants will be open, and staff will become “runners,” delivering the food to those seated outside.
The goal is to bring people downtown, Yanasak said. Businesses need help as they reopen after months of closures.
“There is a need, and I’m concerned,” he said.
Masks and social distancing will be required. There will be strict crowd control, Yanasak said.
“This is a new thing for us, and we hope for great success,” he said.
Yanasak said the Friday night event will continue throughout July. If successful, he hopes to extend Meeker Nights for the duration of the summer.
