New emergency room facility opens in South Hill

MultiCare Health System announced Wednesday that South Hill has a new “neighborhood emergency room.”

The new facility, called MultiCare South Hill Emergency, is located at 13106 Meridian East in Puyallup and is intended to provide residents with faster and more convenient access to health care.

The facility is more than an urgent care, Dr. Heather Justice told The Puyallup Herald, because it offers more staff, and more services like X-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds.

“We are full-service,” said Justice, who’s the president of Western Washington Emergency Physicians said. “We can handle any emergency that walks in the door.”

The 10,000-square-foot care center has nine treatment rooms and onsite labs and imaging, spokesperson Dan Branley said in a news release.

Board-certified emergency physicians will staff the facility, along with registered nurses, a licensed practical nurse and lab-certified staff.

“MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital is proud to serve the communities in East Pierce County and this new emergency room is one more way that patients can get the health care services they need,” President of MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital Jim Beatty said in a statement.

MultiCare’s newest facility is the third neighborhood emergency room built in Pierce County since 2018. Last year, the health care company opened one in Bonney Lake and another in Parkland.

“These new neighborhood ERs provide patients with the same level of care as hospital-based facilities but without the long waits,” Justice said in a statement.
