Will schools in East Pierce County start late tomorrow? Here’s what we know
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
School districts in East Pierce County had a two-hour delay or decided to close schools Tuesday morning due to inclement weather. Some of those districts have yet to determine what tomorrow holds for students and families.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Cascade foothills and other areas.
“Snow levels will remain low (500-1000 feet) through Wednesday morning with a rain/snow mix possible across the lowlands,” a NWS briefing said Tuesday. “Most areas will not see significant accumulations. More widespread lowland snow possible Wednesday night with significant snow possible in the Cascade foothills of Snohomish, King and Pierce counties and in Whatcom and San Juan county.”
The NWS also cautioned drivers in a tweet Tuesday morning that rain and freezing temperatures could mean black ice on the roads, and the State Patrol asked drivers to slow down this week as temperatures stay near-freezing, The News Tribune reported.
Puyallup School District
The school district announced that bus runs are canceled Tuesday afternoon for elementary school students due to icy road conditions. Parents must make alternative arrangements when students are dismissed.
Bus runs for children in secondary schools will continue as planned, but the school district advises families to make alternate pick-up arrangements because road conditions will affect drop-off times, according to the announcement.
After-school athletic and extracurricular activities are also canceled for junior high schools only, according to the announcement. Buses for high school activities will not run.
