Kids can take lessons at a new Puyallup swim school. Here’s when it will open
There’s a new swim school coming to Puyallup for children as young as 4 months old.
Goldfish Swim School plans to open a location in Puyallup sometime between April and June 2023. A location has not been selected yet, but the new facility will join the Redmond and Shoreline location, making it the third swim school of its kind in the state.
“Site selection is well-underway,” according to the company’s news release.
The Puyallup location’s hours of operation and swimming lesson prices are still being determined, spokesperson for the company Marisa Beaumont wrote in an email. But people can expect daytime, evening and weekend hours, she wrote.
The school will have a 90-degree, shiver-free pool, Beaumont wrote. Classes will have about a four-to-one student-to-teacher ratio. The school offers swim lessons and water safety classes to infants and children between the ages of 4 months to 12 years.
“The Puyallup location’s top priority is educating children on water safety while teaching them how to swim and respect the water,” Beaumont wrote.
Instructors will evaluate each student’s strengths and weaknesses, and they will adjust their teaching methods accordingly, Beaumont wrote. The school will use a philosophy called “The Science of SwimPlay” to build life skills in and out of the water.
The Science of SwimPlay is described as building upon children’s cognitive growth through guided play in a safe environment, according to the school’s website.
The school looks to bring “much needed” swim safety lessons to the area, the news release said. Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children between the ages of 1 to 4, the release said.
“Washington is an ideal state for our continued expansion as we look to further develop in the Seattle area and beyond,” Chris McCuiston, CEO and co-founder of Goldfish Swim School, said in the news release.
