2 Puyallup-area schools cancel classes after power outage reportedly caused by vandalism

Puyallup School District officials canceled school at two buildings Friday due to a power outage.

They initially posted on social media about 6:30 a.m. that school would start 2.5 hours late at Emerald Ridge High School and Glacier View Junior High School. Later they posted that the two schools would be closed for the day, but that after-school activities would still happen.

Puget Sound Energy did not immediately respond to The News Tribune’s request for information about the outage.

District spokesperson Sarah Gillispie told The News Tribune in an email: “The outage was noted on PSE’s outage map and reported as ‘vandalism.’”

Crews restored power later in the day, she said, and she expected classes to continue as usual next week. Monday is a regular late start day for families, she said.

Staff writer Angelica Relente contributed to this report.
