We asked readers which restaurant makes the best pizza in East Pierce County.

We gave you a dozen options. Some of you lobbied for pizza places in Tacoma and Lakewood. We respect that, but for this poll we’re focusing on pizza you can find in East Pierce County.

The winner, with 827 votes, is a food truck called Just a Pizza My Mind. It has a fun backstory.

We wrote about Just a Pizza My Mind and the love story behind it in December when the truck opened.

Melissa and Samuel Ranz spent their honeymoon road-tripping across the country, researching pizza in every town they visited.

The result is a menu with wood-fired creations such as the midnight porker pizza, which has Swiss cheese, pulled pork, onion crisps and barbecue sauce.

It looks like they plan to visit Top Down Brewing from 4:30-7:30 p.m. July 2 at 15355 Main St. E. in Sumner.

Fat Zach’s Wood Fired Pizza took second place with 508 votes. Fat Zach’s started as a food truck in 2018 and now has brick-and- mortar locations in Puyallup (621 Fifth St. SW), Sumner (2160 136th Ave. E.) and South Hill (10219 132nd St. E.). Its namesake pizza has pepperoni, sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon and linguica.

Wicked Pie Pizza came in third with 160 votes. The restaurant at 112 S. Meridian Ave. opened in 2017. Its Flying Pig pizza has salami, bacon, sausage, pepperoni and prosciutto.
