Expect congestion on this Pierce County route. Lane closures mostly around the clock

A route between Tacoma and Puyallup might get congested this week.

A portion of State Route 167, or River Road East, will undergo emergency utility repairs through Friday, July 7. Crews will close lanes in both directions of the highway from Gay Road East to 50th Avenue East.

The lane closures will be in place all day except between 3:30-7 p.m. Drivers can expect five-minute traffic stops in each direction from time to time.

“Please slow down and pay attention when traveling through work zones to keep crews and all roadway users safe,” WSDOT said in a news release.
