Four teen suspects booked into juvenile hall after armed robberies in Puyallup, Sumner
Sheriff’s deputies and police officers arrested four teenagers after two armed robberies Wednesday night, Oct. 18, in East Pierce County.
The suspects were three 16-year-old boys and a 14-year-old girl. Officers booked them into the Remann Hall juvenile detention facility.
Prosecutors charged the suspects with four counts of first-degree robbery. They also charged the driver with attempting to elude police.
Around 6 p.m. Oct. 18, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department helped the Puyallup and Sumner police departments respond to a robbery in each city.
Deputy Sumner Police Chief Andy McCurdy wrote in an email that the suspects told four 14-year-olds in the 6000 block of 160th Avenue East to give them “everything.” One of the suspects allegedly displayed a shotgun and threatened to shoot them, McCurdy wrote, and the victims gave the suspects personal items such as backpacks, phones and headphones.
A spokesperson for the Puyallup Police Department did not respond to The News Tribune’s request for additional information about the Puyallup robbery Thursday.
The suspects drove a stolen teal Jeep Wrangler from Yakima, and they had a shotgun, according to the Sheriff’s Department’s blotter.
The suspects also allegedly had a stolen phone, which deputies tracked to Lakeland Hills Way and Lake Tapps Parkway Southeast. They fled when deputies arrived. Bonney Lake police officers stopped the vehicle at 214th Avenue East and Kelly Lake Road East.
The driver and one of the back passengers fled from the jeep. A deputy chased them while other deputies “held the other occupants at gunpoint,” according to the Sheriff’s Department’s blotter. There was allegedly a sawed-off shotgun next to the front passenger.
Deputies eventually caught the driver. The back passenger fled into the woods. A police dog was at the scene, and a deputy found him.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss Jr. wrote in an email that there have been more juvenile armed robbery suspects than adult suspects recently.
The News Tribune reported Oct. 14 about a 14-year-old boy booked into Remann Hall on suspicion of first-degree robbery, resisting arrest, reckless driving, attempting to elude police and motor vehicle theft.
