Police: Robbers fired shots, stole woman’s car outside East Pierce County grocery store

The Sumner Police Department is looking for two men involved in a robbery and shooting Nov. 20 in a grocery store parking lot.

Around 11:30 p.m. the two suspects asked a woman for money in the parking lot in the 6600 block of Wahl Road East. When she reached into her purse, the suspects fought her for it, and they stole her car keys, the city wrote in a news release.

Another driver tried to intervene, and one of the suspects fired at him with a handgun, “striking the driver’s door of his car,” according to the news release. The driver wasn’t injured.

The suspects fled in the woman’s white Honda CRV. The license plate is BNN7357.

As they fled one of the suspects shot at another driver’s vehicle, “striking the car and causing non-life-threatening injuries to the victim’s face,” according to the news release.

City spokesperson Carmen Palmer said the bullet struck the car and went through the window. She said she did not know if the bullet or shards from the window struck the driver’s face.

Anyone with information can call the police department’s tip line at 253-299-5678.
