Puyallup: News

The recipe for her cinnamon rolls came from her mama. Here’s where you can get a taste

There is a new bakery in Buckley that offers warm, handcrafted cinnamon rolls.

Bonnie’s Buns at 29297 state Route 410 E., Suite D, opened Dec. 16. The bakery is open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The bakery sells traditional cinnamon rolls and rolls that have fillings such as Reese’s peanut butter, caramel apple pie, blackberry and raspberry. A single cinnamon roll costs $7. A 6-pack costs $36.

“This recipe is my mom’s. She would be over 100 if she was still living,” owner Cristina King told The News Tribune.

The bakery also sells bread. A loaf costs $5.

King said she moved to Puyallup about 26 years ago. She and her family previously lived around Renton and Kent. She wanted to open a bakery because baking makes her happy. When she was going through brain cancer treatment, baking was therapy for her.

“I feel very blessed,” King said.

Bonnie’s Buns participated in local neighborhood markets for a year before opening a brick-and-mortar.

When asked what makes Bonnie’s Buns different, King said: “The buns are good. You get your money’s worth.”

The bakery was previously a coffee-roasting company, antique toy store and marijuana dispensary.
