$2.6 million will double the size of this City Hall with 9 staff in East Pierce County
Plans to expand Buckley City Hall are in the works.
City Administrator Courtney Brunell told The News Tribune that city staff are outgrowing the building at 933 Main St. The building has one bathroom, nine staff working in it and no conference room.
“It’s just not very efficient,” Brunell said.
The plan is to double the space from 1,907 square feet to 3,826 square feet. The expansion would help put the planning, finance and other city departments in one building, Brunell said.
The extra space would give the building two additional restrooms, two storage rooms and a conference room. The estimated cost of the project is $2.6 million. Brunell said it would primarily be funded by the city’s real estate excise tax.
The Buckley City Council will vote Tuesday, Jan. 9, during the council meeting whether to approve a revised contract with an engineering consulting firm so design work can continue. If approved, the project could be put out to bid this spring, Brunell said.
Construction could start this summer or fall, Brunell said. Construction could finish by 2025.
