Puyallup: News

Northwest Motorsport has closed. It did business in Puyallup. Here’s what we know

Northwest Motorsport has closed, the company announced this week.

The company has locations in Puyallup and elsewhere. Automotive News reported Wednesday that the business closed three of its 11 locations last year and that it looks like the rest of its used-vehicle dealerships closed Tuesday.

“After thoughtful consideration and evaluation of today’s pre-owned vehicle market conditions, we have decided to close operations at Northwest Motorsport, effective January 23, 2024,” a message on the Northwest Motorsport website said Wednesday.

The message directed anyone with questions to “email contact@nwmsrocks.com or call 253-604-7441.”

The person who answered that number Wednesday afternoon directed a News Tribune reporter to a number for the business’s Charlotte, North Carolina-based parent company. The answering machine for that number said it was for corporate communications at Sonic Automotive. A News Tribune reporter left a message, which was not immediately returned.

Sonic’s website lists three Northwest Motorsport locations in the Puyallup area: 300 Valley Ave. NE, 400 River Road and 1806 River Road.

The Puget Sound Business Journal reported in 2022 that a River Road Northwest Motorsport lot was one of six in the state acquired in a $45 million deal.

This is a developing story. Further information was not immediately available.
