Traffic alert: Crews block South Hill road during evening commute to fight house fire

Update as of 5 p.m.: The fire is out, but crews are still monitoring for hot spots.

Initial post: Central Pierce firefighters are working to extinguish a residential fire in Puyallup.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue posted at 3:45 p.m. Thursday on social media that crews are in the 8800 block of 128th Street East. Drivers should find alternative routes, the post said, because the street is blocked.

Neighbors saw smoke coming from a vacant home and called for help, according to the social media post. Firefighters saw flames inside upon arrival.
