Head-on wreck blocks state Route 162 for over 3 hours. One of the drivers was arrested
A Sumner man and a Puyallup woman suffered injuries after a head-on wreck Wednesday evening, Feb. 14, in Sumner.
The 26-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were transported to Tacoma General Hospital, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.
Around 8:46 p.m. the Sumner man was driving a Chevrolet Suburban SUV westbound on state Route 162 just west of 78th Court East. The Puyallup woman was driving a Ford Escape SUV eastbound on SR 162 just west of Rivergrove Drive East.
The Chevrolet SUV crossed the center line and hit the Ford SUV head-on, the WSP release said. The Chevrolet came to rest in the center turn lane while the Ford came to rest on the left shoulder.
The wreck blocked the road for three hours and 30 minutes. The cause of the crash was “failure to maintain lane,” according to the news release.
The Sumner man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular assault, according to the news release.
