Puyallup: News

Construction closes part of popular Pierce Country trail that’s undergoing improvements

The Foothills Trail is getting a new parking lot in Buckley.

The parking lot will be on Jefferson Avenue between state Route 410 and the trail. It will have accessible stalls, electric vehicle charging stalls and restrooms, according to a news release from the city.

Construction started Feb. 19.

Jefferson Avenue is closed to traffic between SR 410 and River Avenue during construction. Part of the trail, between the veteran’s monument and the youth activity center, is also closed. There’s a signed detour for trail users.

Construction is expected to finish by the end of March, according to the news release.

City Administrator Courtney Brunell wrote in an email Feb. 26 that the project will cost about $470,000. Pierce County contributed $75,000 for the restroom. The city is covering the rest.
