A 22-year-old woman was fatally shot in Puyallup, police say. Here’s what they know

A 22-year-old woman died from a gunshot wound to the head Sunday night in Puyallup, according to police.

Around 9:04 p.m. that night she was brought to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, where she died from her injuries. The woman was from Kingston. Her name has not been released.

Earlier that night, around 8:51 p.m., Puyallup Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of 10th Avenue Northwest for “gunshots heard in the area,” according to a news release from the Puyallup Police Department Monday.

Officers found shell cartridges in the street. They did not see any victims, according to the news release.

Tacoma Police and Puyallup Police investigators later determined that the Kingston woman was connected to the shooting, according to the news release.

Puyallup Police investigators determined that she was a passenger in a black SUV at the time of the shooting, according to the news release.

Those in the SUV had a “confrontation” with others in the 1500 block of 10th Avenue Northwest, and shots were fired into the vehicle, according to the news release.

The investigation is ongoing. The police are asking those in the area who have surveillance cameras to check footage between 8-9 p.m. Sunday. Anyone with information can call the Puyallup Police Department at 253-770-3343 or email the agency at tips@puyallupwa.gov.
