What happened to the Greenwater General Store near Crystal Mountain? Here’s what we know

If you are heading to Crystal Mountain this summer, you may run into a new store with goods and gas.

The Greenwater General Store, which has been closed since winter, has new owners. Brian Fahsholtz and his wife gave the store at 58120 state Route 410 a new name: Mt. Rainier General Store.

Fahsholtz said they are hoping to reopen the store sometime in July. They have been doing remodeling work since purchasing the store in April. He said their goal for the store is to have groceries, gas and recreation gear.

Plans to have a hang-out spot in the backyard are also in the works, Fahscholtz said. There is some old memorabilia such as signs, bottles and totem poles hanging around the property that they want to showcase.

“I’m excited about this,” Fahscholtz said.

Fahscholtz grew up in the area. He has lived in Enumclaw for the last seven years, and he used to live in Bonney Lake. He said he is passionate about the outdoors. When he was a teenager his family owned a restaurant and cabin spot not too far from the general store.

Fahsholtz said he is looking forward to opening the store and welcoming locals and visitors.

Greenwater resident Keneta Anderson wrote in an email that Ken Bailey previously ran the store. He passed away late last year.

Bailey took ownership of the store in 2015, according to a social media post from the Greenwater General Store.

Greenwater resident Bob Grubb said he used to help run the store in the 1970s. The store went through several owners prior to Bailey.

Grubb said he is happy that the store is reopening after being closed for some time.

“It’s exciting for me and everybody else in town to see the general store get fixed up, cleaned and operated so we can go out and get our gas, groceries and just see another vibrant business,” Grubb said.
