Puyallup: News

Juveniles broke into about a dozen cars overnight in this Pierce County city, police say

The Sumner Police Department received numerous reports of vehicle break-ins in residential areas throughout the city early Monday, according to the city’s website.

Police had identified about a dozen victims as of 10 a.m.

One of the victims was an off-duty Pierce County sheriff’s deputy, according to the city’s website. His patrol vehicle was parked in the driveway of his home.

Police say the suspects are four to six nondescript juveniles in two different vehicles: a small dark-colored SUV and a medium-sized silver sedan, according to the website. The break-ins may have occurred between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m.

The investigation is still in its early stages, according to the website. Investigators think there is a chance that the break-ins are related to incidents that happened in Puyallup and Renton.

When asked about the related incidents, city spokesperson Carmen Palmer told The News Tribune she cannot share that information because the investigation is ongoing.

Those with information or security camera footage can contact Sumner Police at 253-299-5678.
