Bonney Lake police officer hits pedestrian with patrol car Monday night
A man has been released from the hospital after a police officer with the Bonney Lake Police Department hit him last night with a patrol car.
According to a Facebook post from BLPD, the incident happened at about 11:58 p.m. on June 23 in the 10600 block of 214th Ave. E. Officers were on a “routine patrol” traveling south when they hit the man, who was in the roadway, police said.
“Officers immediately rendered aid to the pedestrian, who sustained some injuries,” the post said. “The individual was conscious and speaking while being treated in the ambulance and was subsequently transported to Tacoma General Hospital. The individual has been released from the hospital.”
Investigators believe the man was “walking northbound in the middle of the southbound lanes at the time of the collision,” the post said. The Metro Collision Response Team is investigating.
Public information officer Taylor Graham, a detective with the department, told The News Tribune the officer driving the patrol car was a man who has been with the department for less than a year. Graham didn’t immediately know the officer’s age. He is not on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
When The News Tribune asked how fast the officer was going, Graham said he didn’t know. He said the speed limit on the road is 25 miles per hour.
