Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon after a car crashed into a Pierce Transit shuttle in the Puyallup area.

Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, told The News Tribune the accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Canyon Road and 72nd Street near Puyallup. The car T-boned the shuttle, causing it to flip over onto its side.

Cappetto said the shuttle had two passengers, a man and a woman. The woman was wheelchair-bound.

“It was, like, one of those transport buses that picks up people with special needs or disabilities,” Cappetto said.

Both of the shuttle passengers had “bruises and scrapes,” and were sent to local hospitals for evaluation, she said.

“The driver of the transit bus had no injuries, he was released on scene,” Cappetto said. “The suspect driver, the at-fault driver had minor injuries – he was treated on scene and released on scene.”

Cappetto called the incident an “accident” and said there were no signs of driving under the influence.
