Traffic alert: Busy Puyallup road closed during construction

Part of a busy Puyallup street is closed today.

Eric Johnson, spokesperson for the City of Puyallup, told The News Tribune that Pioneer Way is closed between 33rd Street Southeast and 141st Avenue Court East until 7 p.m. tonight.

Crews closed the road from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 29, and blocked off access again at 8 a.m. this morning, Johnson said.

Johnson said this is so the city can “continue working on a water main replacement project that began earlier in September.”

“Cars will need to detour using 80th St. SE during the closure. Detour signs are posted,” Johnson wrote in an email to The News Tribune. “Contractors should be finished this evening, with that road section opening tomorrow. There will be future closures related to this project, and nearby businesses and residents will be notified once we have more information from the contractor.”
