Commuters: Expect traffic delays on SR 167 as crews start bridge repairs
Drivers can expect delays and lane closures on state Route 167 while crews work to repair the bridge across Third Avenue Southwest in Pacific.
The bridge – which closed after an over-height vehicle struck it on Sept. 23 – is expected to fully reopen in early 2026, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
“To set up the work zone, all northbound lanes of the highway between Stewart and Ellingson roads will close Wednesday night, Nov. 19,” the release said. “When traffic reopens the next morning, there will be just one northbound lane.”
The following changes are expected to take place:
- All lanes of state Route 167 will be closed from 11 p.m. on Nov. 19 to 5 a.m. on Nov. 20, between Stewart Road and Ellingson Road. There will be a detour to guide people.
- Northbound state Route 167 will be reduced to one right lane 24 hours a day between Stewart Road and just north of the Third Avenue Southwest overpass. The left and center lanes will be closed to make space for crews and equipment.
- Third Avenue Southwest will close on Nov. 19 until bridge repairs are complete. There will be a detour using local roads.
“Our engineers have done everything possible to minimize the effects of this incident on people who live, work and commute through this area,” Brian Nielsen, the northwest region administrator, said in the release. “Crews will be working seven days a week to complete the repairs and reopen the bridge as quickly and safely as possible.”
Gov. Bob Ferguson issued a declaration of emergency on Sept. 30, allowing WSDOT to seek federal funds for repairs. Earlier this month, WSDOT entered a $1.6 million contract with Johansen Construction Company in Sumner to complete the repairs.
“WSDOT urges people who travel on this corridor to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes,” the release said.
