Pierce Co. intersection closed indefinitely as crews work to remove floodwater

Crews are working to remove standing water at an intersection near Lake Tapps.

According to a Facebook post from Pierce County Planning & Public Works, water from December’s atmospheric river events has flooded South Tapps Drive East, southwest of the intersection with Maryann Drive East.

Work to remove the water started on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

“Work will occur during daylight hours only to allow crews to closely monitor pumping operations and ensure no downstream impacts occur,” the post said. “South Tapps Dr. E will remain closed until the water is removed from the roadway.”

There is no estimated completion date, the post said.

“The duration of the work will depend on the volume of water present, weather conditions, and any unforeseen issues encountered during pumping,” the post said. “Please use caution and limit pedestrian activity near the work area.”
