$13 million project will cause road closures and detours this week in Pierce Co.
The final paving for a road project that will provide increased access to sanitary sewer facilities in Pierce County will cause road closures this week.
Final paving of Woodland Avenue East, 112th Street East and 66th Avenue East will occur Tuesday through Friday during daytime work hours. Crews were performing prep work last week, according to Pierce County Planning & Public Works.
The goal of the Woodland Pump Station and Temporary Force Main project is to expand sewer access to about 30 acres of unsewered properties in unincorporated Pierce County, according to the county’s website.
“The project includes the installation of a regional sanitary sewer pump station on the west side of Woodland Avenue East, approximately 2,000 feet south of 112th Street East. The project also includes the installation of approximately 7,500 LF of gravity sanitary sewer pipe in Woodland Avenue East, 112th Street East, and 66th Avenue East. This pipe will serve as both the point of connection to the public sanitary sewer system for adjacent properties and the connection of future sewer line extensions that eventually will provide sewer access to the remaining subbasin,” an overview of the project said.
After the project finishes, the new pump station will send flows through a new 4,200-foot-long, 12-inch-diameter force main to the existing public sanitary sewer system at 112th Street East.
It’s estimated the project costs about $13,481,608, which comes from connection charges and monthly sewer rates, the website said.
More information on the project can be found on the Pierce County website.
Traffic impacts
Woodland Avenue East will be closed during paving between 104th Street East and 112th Street East, and between 112th Street East and 128th Street East, the website said.
The road will reopen after paving is finished.
“Manhole repairs are also scheduled for next week in the south section of Woodland, between 112th and 128th. This section of the road is expected to remain closed during the entire paving period,” the website said.
Drivers on Woodland Avenue East are advised to detour to the west using 104th Street East, Canyon Road East and 128th Street East. Traffic can also detour to the east using 104th Street East, Fruitland Avenue East, 86th Avenue East and 128th Street East.
112th Street East will stay open with reduced traffic lanes during paving. 66th Avenue East will only be open for residents and emergency vehicles.
There will be flaggers during daytime work to help pedestrians. Businesses will stay open.
“We will provide progress updates during paving. After paving is complete, work on the pump station will continue outside the right-of-way off Woodland Avenue East,” the website said.
