Puyallup Rec’s Youngsters Yard Sale teaches kids about commerce

Children’s clothing, toys and furniture are always hot-ticket items at yard sales.

With that in mind, the Puyallup Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Youngsters Yard Sale to help children learn about commerce when they get to sell their own toys or clothing and potentially buy from each other.

“You always see kid stuff at yard sales,” said Tyler Eidson, recreation coordinator. “The idea is that it is kids’ stuff, sold by kids.”

Parents will pay $10 to register their child for a booth, which comes with a table, and the child will sell their gently used toys, clothing or kid friendly furniture to other kids, parents or families.

Eidson says the Parks and Rec Department takes care of reserving the space, the signage and promotion of the event, allowing children to keep their profits from the yard sale.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (July 9) at Grayland Park, with setup beginning at 8 a.m. for vendors. The event is open to the public.
