Girls state soccer rundown

After a busy week for local girls soccer in district playoffs, Puyallup High (Class 4A), Sumner (3A) and Cascade Christian (1A) advanced to this week’s state bracket, which starts Monday (Nov. 9). Here’s how they advanced.

Gig Harbor 2, Puyallup 1:

After both the Tides and Vikings played to a tie in their regular season meeting, Narrows League champion Gig Harbor (13-3-1) rode a two-goal lead over Puyallup (13-3-2) at Roy Anderson Field. Saige Lyons’ goal in the 54th minute cut the lead to 2-1, but the Vikings couldn’t find the equalizer on Saturday.

Gig Harbor earned the No. 3 seed, while Puyallup is the No. 4 seed out of the West Central District III playoffs. The Vikings travel to Yakima to play West Valley in their opening-round state match. The day and time of the match was not yet determined as of Monday afternoon.
