Sumner’s Riley officially signs with Montana
Sumner High senior Josh Riley didn’t want to do anything flashy when it came time for him to sign his letter of intent for track and field for the University of Montana.
And that’s exactly how things went down Nov. 18 when he made it official during a morning signing ceremony inside the school’s gym.
“It was pretty cool, as it was just all the coaches, teacher and friends there to support me,” Riley said. “It was kind of weird because I’m not like one who wants all the attention, but it was still pretty fun to have.”
Riley has plans to study athletic training and human science with the intent to go into the athletic training field after college.
“When I went over there, I just really liked it,” Riley said of his visit to Montana’s campus in Missoula. “It reminded me of Sumner.”
Those are great goals to have, and life wouldn’t be normal if Riley didn’t set himself up with these little motivators. After all, Riley has spent a track career checking off one aspiration after another.
“(It’s comforting) knowing I have this season to go out to get it (those records),” Riley said.
The senior plans on making his final track season with Sumner count. There’s still those records he wants to break and there are those ones he wants to reset as a personal quest of improvement.
And once this Spartan lands in Missoula next year, the future Grizzly looks to do more of the same: Setting new marks while keeping life simple.
“Right now, I’m just going to train in the offseason and get myself ready for the track season,” Riley said.
