East Pierce County drivers: Forrest Canyon Road East reopens following utility repairs

Update: Pierce County spokesperson Anne Radford said crews opened Forrest Canyon Road East Thursday evening after they finished utility repairs.

Initial post: Commuters in the Bonney Lake and Sumner areas may want to avoid Forrest Canyon Road East until further notice.

The road is closed to through traffic in the 15800 block as crews repair downed utility lines, according to a social media post from the Pierce County Planning & Public Works department.

The road may reopen this evening, but the agency couldn’t provide a concrete time.

Road closure barricades are on East Valley Highway East, Cottage Road East, 166th Avenue East and Sumner Tapps Highway East. Local access is permitted on either side of Forrest Canyon Road East.

The city of Sumner posted on social media that a vehicle might have hit a power pole. County spokesperson Libby Catalinich couldn’t immediately confirm that. Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said he didn’t have a report of a wreck in that area.

Updates are available via Pierce County’s road alerts map.
