As a Sumner native, Kevin Caviezel already feels at home in his new position as executive director of the Sumner Downtown Association.

Caviezel’s main roles are to prepare for events, meet with local businesses, and build sponsors and donations.

“I’ll be looking out for the merchants, and bringing people into downtown,” Caviezel said.

Prior to making the move back to his hometown, Caviezel worked as the Community Services coordinator for the City of Algona.

The Sumner High School graduate sees fundraising as his biggest challenge in his new role. The organization’s board president sees Caviezel as an asset to the community.

“He has a lot of new ideas and is a hard worker,” John Pistilli said. “He’s easy to get along with.”

Caviezel’s goal is to get out in the community, visit more businesses and meet their owners.

“Especially the warehouse businesses,” Caviezel said. “I really want to reach out to the businesses outside of downtown.”

Caviezel also hopes to build a stronger partnerships with the City of Sumner to draw in more folks to the city.

He lives in Puyallup with his wife and three children.

Up next for Caviezel and the Sumner Downtown Association merchants is the Classy Chassis Car Show, which runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 in downtown Sumner.
